This could be our clearest look yet at the Samsung Galaxy X

Or the Galaxy Fold as it might be called

The Samsung Galaxy X – or Galaxy Fold as it looks increasingly likely to be called – has been rumored for a long time, and we’re likely to get an official look at it in a matter of hours at the Galaxy S10 launch, but ahead of that two leaked pictures may have given us an early peek.

The images were shared by MobiFlip and it’s not clear where they came from, so we’d take them with a pinch of salt. But they show a phone that folds like a book, as we’re expecting the Galaxy X to, and which seemingly has small top and bottom bezels, but larger side bezels than you might expect and a large notch.

That notch is worthy of closer attention, as rather than being central it’s off to the right edge and appears to be completely separate to the screen, thanks to an obvious frame around it. While odd, this is similar to a design we've previously seen on a Samsung 5G phone prototype, so it could really be the design.

This is set to land alongside the Samsung S10
The Galaxy S10 Plus is also about to launch

Lots more phones are coming at MWC 2019

This notch houses what looks to be a dual-lens camera. We don’t know the specs, but they could be the same as the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus, which is rumored to have a 10MP and 8MP pairing.

Other things to note include that the Galaxy X as shown here seemingly has a metal frame with a speaker and a USB-C port on the bottom edge.

Beyond the phone itself, one of these pictures also uses the name ‘Galaxy Fold’. This is a name we’ve heard a few times now, including in a recent tweet from Evan Blass (a reputable leaker) so there’s a good chance this is the name it will launch under. We might find out later today (February 20).

Samsung Galaxy X Dispatch Affirmed During The Current Year

Get ready for foldable telephones

For year's we've been hearing bits of gossip and little declarations about Samsung's first foldable telephone, yet now we've had the primary authority word that it will dispatch eventually in 2018.

Samsung versatile division CEO DJ Koh affirmed the organization will dispatch the telephone before the year's end, yet there's no certification you'll have the capacity to get it before 2019.

Koh proposed the organization may disclose the gadget at the Samsung Developer Conference in San Francisco this November.

Already Samsung has affirmed it was chipping away at a gadget with a foldable screen - a telephone that has for quite some time been codenamed the Samsung Galaxy X - however this is the first occasion when we've had a reasonable dispatch window, and the data is straight from the leader of Samsung's versatile division too.

Insignificant months

Koh addressed CNBC about how the telephone is set to function, as well. He stated, "You can utilize the greater part of the employments... on foldable status. Be that as it may, when you have to peruse or see something, at that point you may need to unfurl it.

"Be that as it may, even unfurled, what sort of advantage does that offer contrasted with the tablet? In the event that the unfurled encounter is the same as the tablet, for what reason would they (purchasers) get it?"

"So every gadget, each element, each advancement ought to have a significant message to our end client. So when the end client utilizes it, (they think) 'stunning, this is the reason Samsung made it'."

Precisely how the organization will get that going stays to be seen, yet we'll take in more about that later in the year. It might even be when November that we get the chance to attempt the gadget out of the blue.

Why now for the Samsung Galaxy X, however? It appears to be both the tech has achieved the point where it's conceivable, and the organization says it has done shopper reviews that demonstrate the market is occupied with this sort of telephone.

Samsung's CEO has beforehand said the telephone won't be a contrivance either, so we have our fingers solidly crossed this is a gadget that will be sufficiently noteworthy that individuals will need to get one as quickly as time permits.

Samsung Galaxy X tipped to cost considerably more than iPhone X

With a first look rumored for CES 2019

The folding Samsung Galaxy X has been rumored for a number of years, and while it's yet to officially see the light of day the latest rumors suggest it will be shown off to a select few in January 2019 and cost almost $2,000.

That's according to analysts from Shinhan Financial and Golden Bridge Investment, who spoke to The Korea Times, with the latter claiming that the Samsung Galaxy X price could be as high as ₩2,000,000 (which is around $1,850, £1,375, AU$2,400).

If true, that would make the Galaxy X considerably more expensive than the top-spec iPhone X, which caused wallets to tremble when it launched at $1,149 (£1,149, AU$1,829).

Samsung has previously confirmed that it is working on a smartphone that can fold, but has offered no indication of a potential release date or any of the specs.

However, Kim Jang-yeol, head of research at Golden Bridge Investment, says that the Galaxy X will boast a 7.3-inch OLED display which will reduce to 4.5 inches when folded.

A CES sneak peek?

Park Hyung-woo, the analyst at Shinhan Financial, expects the Galaxy X to enter production around November, with a view to launching towards the start of 2019.

There's a suggestion that Samsung may hold some behind-closed-doors meetings with partners and retailers at the beginning of January during CES 2019, to show off the new foldable handset.

It's likely the device won't be made public until a little later on - potentially at MWC 2019 at the end of February.

While the claims made by the analysts are believable, we've heard so many rumors about the Galaxy X over the years it's always worth taking things with a pinch of salt as firm details are still difficult to come by.
